Architect and presenter George Clarke will front a new TV channel 4 TV series to be broadcast this Autumn. The series will highlight the nearly two million British families who don’t have adequate housing, and the million-odd homes lying empty across the UK. Architect Clarke will set out to raise awareness of the issue and offer practical solutions for those affected.

When the government withdrew its controversial housing market renewal scheme last March there were many who said that the scheme simply couldn’t be stopped. They insisted government would have to bail out the remaining schemes. Government responded and in May a £30million rescue fund was announced and targeted at the five most badly affected areas. Reasonable you might think, but with the details recently published, it has become clear that the funding is only available to councils to pay for moving people out of affected areas.
